Lakers have leading candidate to be waived

The LA Lakers are expected to waive Cam Reddish, who has been out of the rotation since January, to make room for Jordan Goodwin.

The injury-plagued Los Angeles Lakers are on a three-game losing streak, yet even with three starters sidelined, Cam Reddish remains out of the rotation.

Reddish, who joined the Lakers in 2023, is averaging 3.3 points and 2.0 rebounds over 31 games (18.1 minutes per game) this season. However, the 25-year-old forward hasn't played since January 28 against Philadelphia.

According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, Reddish is expected to be waived in the near future.

"He just has not been in the rotation since that game," Buha noted on his latest podcast. "He's barely even played in garbage time and the Lakers traded him. He's not played since the trade. He is the leading candidate to be waived right now. It's between him and Alex Len, but I think Cam."

The Lakers included Reddish into the trade package for Charlotte Hornets center Mark Williams ahead of Feb. 6 deadline, but the trade was eventually rescinded.

Some speculated there might be tension between Reddish and head coach JJ Redick, but Buha dismissed that belief.

"I don't think there's a beef," Buha said. "When Cam is in the locker room, he's always in good spirits. ... He's a beloved figure in the locker room."

Once Reddish is waived, the LA Lakers are expected to convert Jordan Goodwin's two-way contract into a standard deal.

The Lakers sit at 40-24 and hold the fourth seed in the Western Conference.
