Hot on the heels of Chelsea reportedly agreeing a big-money (does €50m still count as “big” money?) deal for Geovany Quenda, we have reports of Chelsea also agreeing a deal for Dario Essugo. This one’s about half the price of the other, around €22m, as per CNN Portugal. Buy one, get one for half price!
Unlike Quenda, who will only join in 2026, Essugo’s transfer is for the upcoming summer transfer window. Just like Quenda, he will be signing a 7-year contract, through 2032.\
UPDATE: For what it’s worth, Ben Jacobs is reporting that while we’re in talks, the deal isn’t quite done yet.
Essugo, who’s celebrating his 20th birthday today, has been on loan all season at UD Las Palmas from Sporting, making 17 appearances in La Liga and scoring one goal — though goals are not Essugo’s game. He’s more of a defensive midfielder-type, running about tirelessly, putting out fires.
Either way, at least he’s not another winger!
