Preston Grange Primary School celebrates Newcastle United ahead of Carabao Cup final
The former primary school of a Newcastle United star in North Shields put on a black and white day on Friday ahead of the Carabao Cup final.
Preston Grange Primary School students were decked out in Newcastle shirts as they celebrated ahead of Sunday's massive game. The children also have something in common with a current NUFC player, as Preston Grange was the school that Sean Longstaff attended.
Tracey Taylor, the headteacher at Preston Grange Primary School, said: "As a school, we are huge into sport and particularly football, and of course the legacy of Sean and Matty Longstaff going here is a big deal. Their little brother also still attends the school so we often see Sean coming to collect him.
"I think this is an amazing time for the children to learn about their local area, and we are also able to instill a sense of local pride into them. They have been singing local songs like Blaydon Races and Coming Home Newcastle, which are helping with the Geordie spirit and teaching them some heritage at the same time.
"The Carabao Cup final has given us the chance to celebrate as a school community, and the kids are having an amazing day. This is really memorable for them and everyone at the school, and it is bringing people together which is the main thing.
"The kids also gave their predictions, they think we'll win 2-1 and Isak will score both of the goals. We're also going to have another day like this on Monday if they win, so everyone is really looking forward to the match."
