Dolphins Lose Compensatory Draft Pick Following NFL Decision

The Miami Dolphins were initially rewarded two seventh-round compensatory picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. But an updated compensatory calculation changed the Dolphins' draft picks for 2025.

In a report from Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the NFL Management Council announced a recalculation of the NFL compensatory pick formula. The New Orleans Saints were awarded a seventh-round selection while taking away one of the Dolphins' seventh-round compensatory picks.

The Dolphins are losing one of their seventh-round compensatory picks and will be left with ten selections in the 2025 NFL Draft. It's a complicated situation surrounding the error.

According to Over The Cap contributor and NFL Contract analyst Nick York, the two players involved were former Dolphins wide receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr. and Saints cornerback Isaac Yiadom.

Wilson was wrongly included as a compensatory free agent. After Wilson's compensatory pick was negated, the Saints earned a seventh-round compensatory pick from losing Yiadom in free agency.

The Dolphins had reworked Wilson's contract in 2023, shortening the contract and making Wilson ineligible for a compensatory pick. Wilson not counting opened the spot for Yiadom to count, which led to the Dolphins losing one of their compensatory picks.

This news is especially tough for the Dolphins, as the New England Patriots were involved in a similar issue in 2021 but didn't end up losing a compensatory pick.

The NFLPA and the NFL Management Council negotiated for an extra pick to be put on the board, letting the Patriots keep the compensatory pick they originally were supposed to lose.

The Dolphins still have ten selections in the 2025 NFL Draft, but losing out on a pick that was initially awarded to them is a tough situation to be in. The 2025 NFL Draft begins on April 24 with the first round. The pick the Dolphins initially had in the seventh round would've happened on April 26, during day three.
