David Moyes shares the 'big thing' he's asked Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite to do after England…

Jarrad Branthwaite will be disappointed after today’s England news, as Thomas Tuchel opted for other options.

Everton fans were fuming at Branthwaite’s England denial, as Tuchel has a lot to answer for in not including the 22-year-old.

The centre-back has put in stalwart performances under David Moyes but clearly the new England boss deemed that not to be enough.

The Everton boss has mentioned James Tarkowski for an England call-up, as Tuchel might not have only made a mistake with Branthwaite.

But Moyes has offered some advice to the young defender on how to impress the German.

What David Moyes told Jarrad Branthwaite after England snub

It’s the first England squad selection for Tuchel that hasn’t gone too well, and Branthwaite fits into the bracket of unfortunate players to just miss out.

Whether the defender will be at the Merseyside Club in the summer is another question, but Branthwaite wants to win trophies, which he might not do at Everton.

Well before he even thinks about trophies, he needs to get himself in the England reckoning, and after speaking in his pre-match press conference, Moyes might have just told Branthwaite how he can achieve that and it has something to do with his call-up to the England under-21s.

“If you’re looking at the last six/seven weeks, he’s up there with any other English centre-back in the country,” Moyes said.

“The big thing he needs to do is play for the under 21s and be the best player again.

“Then he’ll get selected for the big team, so that’s the instructions I would be giving him.”

Branthwaite not getting call-up will favour Everton in more ways than one

The chance to play for England would’ve been great for the 22-year-old, but he’s still got plenty of time in what is looking like a promising career for Branthwaite.

But Moyes won’t be complaining about keeping hold of Branthwaite for the next few weeks, and they have no worries about him picking up an injury.

It was mixed emotions when Tuchel announced the squad as Everton’s social media defended Branthwaite.

However, the whole ordeal has probably favoured the Toffees in the end, as Tuchel seeing Branthwaite further down in the pecking order may steer away interest from other clubs.

It’s a silver lining, but no doubt, Branthwaite will still be incredibly frustrated.
