Miguel Almiron bid farewell to Newcastle United in January, returning to Atlanta United.
It was an emotional goodbye for the Paraguayan who spent six years on Tyneside, managed by three different head coaches.
Miguel Almiron left Newcastle to return to the MLS, signing for his previous club Atlanta United. It was said that there were emotional scenes at Newcastle’s training ground when Almiron said his goodbyes, a testament to the hard work he put in during his time on Tyneside.
Life back in Atlanta has been fairly positive for the 31-year-old, scoring in pre-season and bagging an assist in his first MLS game since leaving in 2019.
The assist etched Almiron’s name into Atlanta’s history books after becoming one of the few players to achieve 50 goal contributions for the club.
Now settled in at his new club, Almiron has sat down to reflect on his time at Newcastle and the legacy he left there.

Miguel Almiron’s favourite Newcastle moment
Newcastle fans thanked Almiron when he left in January, all in agreement that he gave his all for the club whenever he stepped foot on the pitch. The fans will never forget his sensational form during the 2022/23 season that helped the Magpies qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 20 years.
While that Champions League campaign was short-lived, there were still some memorable games including the historic 4-1 win against PSG at St James’ Park. That night in Newcastle will forever go down as one of the great wins in the club’s history, no matter what happens in the future.

In a recent interview with the Athletic, Almiron spoke about his time at Newcastle and his favourite memory form his six-year spell.
“My goal against PSG,” he said.
“That day was important because of what it meant to us when we walked onto the pitch. Not only because we won 4-1 or because I scored a goal.
“The feeling at the stadium was different. It didn’t feel like a Premier League game. It felt different. And I believe it had been 20 years since Newcastle was in the Champions League.
“It’s the most beautiful memory that I have from my time in England.”
That goal against PSG was just one of 30 goals he scored in 223 appearances, it might not even be his most important one but it was a goal that will never be forgotten.
Miguel Almiron’s love for Newcastle fans
The final 18 months of Almiron’s Newcastle career may be looked on with less fond memories, especially the 2024/25 campaign where he only made nine appearances, but fans will still consider him as a cult hero for years to come.
Despite an abrupt end, Almiron still felt the love from the fans throughout his Newcastle career.
Speaking to the Athletic, Almiron said: “(The support from Newcastle fans) is such a strong feeling.
“The Newcastle supporters are so passionate,” he added.
“It’s honestly incredible. Newcastle fans cheer a tackle, so to be honest, that experience, even when I was going through a difficult time, the fans always supported me. I felt that and I’m so grateful. I’ll always be grateful to the people of Newcastle.”
