Newcastle school students launched black and white celebrations early in hopes of a Newcastle win at Wembley this weekend.

Newcastle United will take on Liverpool in the Carabao Cup this Sunday - and hopes for the team to win its first a major domestic trophy in 70 years now is higher than ever.

Students and staff from the Northern Counties School in Jesmond, part of the Percy Hedley Foundation, were abuzz of excitement and cheer this morning as they hosted a black and white day in support of NUFC and the landmark event.

Activities included performances of classic Geordie chants from the schools British Sign Language choir who were previously showcased at the MOBO awards earlier this year and even a special video message from a famous Newcastle player.

The students' passion for NUFC has been a longstanding affair - the schools deaf students were the official mascots at a match after partnering with Sela and NUFC for the #UnsilenceTheCrowd project, and Alan Shearer also visited Northern Counties recently to engage with students and staff alike.

Martin Lonergan, headteacher at The Northern Counties School said: "The pupils had an amazing day celebrating Newcastle United ahead of Sunday’s final. We had songs from our BSL choir, face painting, games and even a penalty shootout. We’re fully behind Newcastle taking home the win on Sunday!"

The Percy Hedley Foundation is the largest education and care provider in the North East for people with disabilities. has provided an incredible 32 million hours of education, therapy and care for children and adults since it began in 1953.
