Paul Merson risks angering Tottenham fans with his Fulham score prediction

Paul Merson has made his score prediction as Tottenham Hotspur make the short journey to Fulham and he has raised concerns after their previous Premier League match.

Tottenham are looking to restore some dignity in the Premier League after a torrid season so far. Their next opponents are Fulham, who sit 10th in the Premier League Table, eight points clear of Spurs.

Nothing was able to separate the sides in their December fixture as a Brennan Johnson goal was cancelled out by Tom Cairney, who was sent off later in the match.

Tottenham’s latest league performance offers little hope of a victory this weekend. Although the North Londoners mounted a comeback against Bournemouth, they were fortunate to still be in the game. The away side obtained a 2.20 xG metric and created five big chances, but lacked the ability to be clinical and seal the victory.

Paul Merson criticised Spurs for Bournemouth performance

Paul Merson has made his prediction for Fulham v Tottenham on Sportskeeda and he has little confidence in Spurs after their display last weekend. As well as this, the former Arsenal man believes his old rivals have little incentive to win domestic matches compared with the Europa League.

He said: “I worry for Spurs because they were lucky to get something out of that Bournemouth game. Ange Postecoglou’s men were battered in that one.

“I’m actually backing Fulham to secure a comfortable win. It’s crazy how none of us gave them a chance to finish in Europe at the start of the season. Now I think they can secure a European berth after they get the three points here!”

Tottenham can take inspiration from their Europa League victory

Spurs may not have been convincing last Sunday, but Thursday’s display was much more positive as they powered past AZ Alkmaar to advance to the quarter-finals of a European competition.

Wilson Odobert and James Maddison were both on the scoresheet and really stepped up to the occasion and they will be looking to build on their performances.

Fulham might prove to be a trickier opposition than the side who sit sixth in the Eredivisie, but if Spurs attack as well as they did on Thursday, there is every chance of a victory. Perhaps if Merson were to revise his prediction he would call a Tottenham goal.
