J.J. Watt has some good news and some bad news. The good news? Thanks to some friends in high places at CBS, Watt will get to play Augusta National the day after this year's Masters. The bad news? He hasn’t picked up a golf club in over a year. That leaves the future NFL Hall of Famer with a tough decision. We’ll let him explain.
All golfers have faced this dilemma at one point or another. Life gets in the way. A hammy gets pulled. Winter happens. Before you know it, the bucket-list buddies trip is coming up and you haven’t played since the Nixon administration. Do you try to cram the night before the test or go in cold turkey, hoping to ride the gold gods’ ironic of sense of humor to a respectable round? It’s a tough call, and it gets even tougher when the round in question is at Augusta National with Championship pins and greens running up to 13 or 14 stimp.
We’re not sure if Watt—who estimates he's roughly a 25-handicap— is just thinking out loud or asking for advice, but our two cents is that a couple of warm-up rounds before April 14th can’t hurt. They may not help either, but playing more golf is never a bad thing.
