We’ve reached the business end of the Premier League campaign, which also means it’s the final few weeks of the Fantasy Premier League season. Just 10 matches remain for 2024/25, with 16 of the division’s 20 teams in action this weekend.
Ahead of GW29, Express Sport have taken a look at the biggest injury risks for this weekend’s Premier League action.
Cole Palmer
It’s been a dismal couple of weeks for Cole Palmer, whose blank in midweek against Copenhagen meant his goal drought extended to 10 matches. He missed a penalty last time out in the Premier League against Leicester City, with Enzo Maresca revealing he had been battling illness ahead of the tie.
However, with the visit to Arsenal on the horizon this weekend, expect Maresca to field his strongest XI, Palmer included.
Jean-Philippe Mateta
Jean-Philippe Mateta returned to training for the first time since his horror injury with Millwall’s Liam Roberts earlier this week - a collision that left the Crystal Palace striker hospitalised. However, he won’t be involved this weekend as the Eagles don’t have a scheduled match.
They had been due to play Newcastle United, but the match had to be moved after the Magpies reached the League Cup final.
Trent Alexander-Arnold
It would’ve been a similar case for Trent Alexander-Arnold, with Liverpool set to take on Newcastle in the Wembley showpiece. However, the Englishman won’t be involved in any action this weekend after he suffered a nasty injury against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.
Dejan Kulusevski
One of the bright sparks for Tottenham this season has been the form of Dejan Kulusevski, who, despite Spurs’ woes, has registered 10 goals and 10 assists across all competitions. But, after picking up a foot injury, the Swede hasn’t featured in either of Tottenham’s previous three matches.
According to Ange Postecoglou, Kulusevski isn’t expected to return until the end of the month. He said: “Like I said before, post-international break we expect him to sort of start to move back towards the team.”
Malo Gusto
Subbed off in the first half of Chelsea’s first-leg clash against Copenhagen, Malo Gusto hasn’t been since and remains a doubt for the Arsenal clash. The right-back is suffering from an ankle problem, but given his struggles of late, is unlikely to be in the starting XI.
Instead, the returning Wesley Fofana deputised for Gusto at right-back against Leicester and could operate in the same role again this weekend.
