Newcastle United are weighing up a move for Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White, with any transfer likely to hit a major roadblock.
According to Give Me Sport, Morgan Gibbs-White appears to be one of Eddie Howe’s top targets ahead of the summer. The Newcastle United boss is keen to recruit an attacking midfielder to his ranks, although there might be major issues in convincing the England international over a switch next summer.
Newcastle United are looking ahead to a tricky summer window, which would seem like one of their most important ones in recent years. The Magpies are fighting hard to keep hold of top-rated stars like Bruo Guimaraes and Alexander Isak, while Eddie Howe also wants to add quality reinforcements in their bid to have a strong season next time out.
Howe is keen to recruit an attacking midfielder of top quality, with names like Rayan Cherki mentioned earlier during the winter transfer window. Morgan Gibbs-White is the latest to emerge on Newcastle United’s list of targets, with the Nottingham Forest star coming at the back of a top-notch season under Nuno Espirito Santo
Gibbs-White has been instrumental in Forest climbing into the third spot, and they are now one of the favourites to finish in the top four. While Espirito Santo has done a fabulous job at the City Ground, Gibbs-White has been one of the stars of the team. With the playmaker entering the final two years of his deal, the report does suggest Forest could contemplate considering offers in the region of £50 million.
That price might be within Newcastle United’s range, although they face big competition from Premier League clubs for the £50 million-rated playmaker. There are some teams like Liverpool keen on the attacking midfielder, with the suggestions that these sides are waiting for any indication coming out of Forest about the England international’s future.
Newcastle United may not convince Gibbs-White
Newcastle United might be one of the growing clubs in England, but at the current moment, they need Champions League football to grow consistently in stature. The lack of finances without the premier European competition does affect their ability in the transfer market. Hence, without a top-four finish, the Magpies might find it challenging to convince Gibbs-White over a move.
Moreover, Morgan Gibbs-White might even be handed a new deal before the season ends, as Nottingham Forest have been busy with new contracts for their top performer. Either way, with Champions League football looming large over the City Ground, Forest would ideally keep hold of Gibbs-White, as Newcastle Untied will find it difficult to prise him away.
