A leading member of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona recently turned down an international call-up on the part of his home country.
That’s according to **[Marca](https://www.marca.com/futbol/barcelona/2025/03/14/szczesny-centra-barca.html)**, who point towards Wojciech Szczęsny as the player in question.
Goalkeeper Szczęsny has of course spent the last couple of months establishing himself as the new first-choice option between the posts in Hansi Flick’s Barcelona squad.
After initially being brought in to act as cover for Iñaki Peña following the long-term injury suffered by Marc-André ter Stegen, the 34-year-old has more than proven himself to the Blaugrana coaching staff.
All told, Szczęsny has racked up 15 appearances across all competitions, yet to fall to a single defeat.
And such exploits, it is understood, recently saw the former Juventus man afforded the chance to step out of international retirement, too.
As per a report from Marca:
‘Poland national team coach, Michal Probierz, called Szczęsny, but he declined the offer. He’s focused on Barcelona, a club that wants to extend his contract for another season.’
