Philippines ex-leader at ICC accused of crimes against humanity

The former Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte has appeared by video link at the International Criminal court in the Hague where he’s been charged with crimes against humanity.

His defence lawyer said Duterte had been “abducted” from his country and brought to the Hague – describing it as “pure and simple kidnapping”. The charges relate to Duterte’s deadly war on drugs – in which tens of thousands of civilians were killed.
