Tottenham Hotspur are now facing a fresh challenge as West Ham United have now reportedly stolen a march over their London rivals in the race to sign a midfielder, who is thought to be one of Spurs’ top summer transfer targets.
With reports over recent weeks indicating that Tottenham are open to cashing in on Yves Bissouma this summer, the North London side are expected to be in the market for reinforcements in midfield.
One man who is allegedly thought to be at the top of the Lilywhites’ wishlist is an England international, who is set to become a free agent this June.
It has been claimed by some sources that Spurs have made a pre-contract offer to Lille midfielder Angel Gomes, whose future has been the subject of much speculation ahead of the summer window.

However, it is West Ham who are now ‘advancing their interest’ in Gomes as they look to bolster their squad ahead of Graham Potter’s first full season at the London Stadium.
Tottenham may be tempted to sign Johnny Cardoso
While the chance to sign a player of Gomes’ quality on a free transfer would be extremely tempting for Spurs, they also have another lucrative option to buy a La Liga midfielder on the cheap.
Tottenham acquired a £21m option to buy Johnny Cardoso, which will become active this summer, and given the way the USA international has been performing this season, Postecoglou’s men may view him as the ideal option to solve their issues in the middle of the park.
