‘This time’ - BBC Sport pundit predicts only one outcome from Leicester City vs Man Utd in ‘tight’ match, he makes ‘cutting edge’ point

BBC Sport pundit Chris Sutton has tipped that Manchester United’s encounter with Leicester City is “going to be [a] close” Premier League match on the weekend.

The Red Devils will travel to the King Power Stadium on Sunday for their clash with Leicester City, with kick-off slated for the Premier League tie at 7pm UK time.

Ruben Amorim’s men have serious momentum behind them after Manchester United knocked Real Sociedad out of the Europa League on Thursday evening.

United welcomed Real Sociedad to Old Trafford for their second-leg round-of-16 tie and Ruben Amorim’s side thumped the Spanish side 4-1 on the night.

The Red Devils are through to the quarter-finals of the Europa League and will face French side Lyon in the last eight — across two legs — of the competition in April.

Amorim’s men currently languish in 14th place in the Premier League table and are 17 points clear of 19th-place Leicester City ahead of their visit to the King Power.

The Red Devils have won one of their last five Premier League matches under United manager Amorim and have only picked up nine league wins overall this season.

What Chris Sutton thinks of Leicester City ahead of Man Utd’s Premier League clash

Ruud van Nistelrooy has faced an uphill battle at Leicester City since he stepped down as Manchester United interim manager in 2024 and took charge of the Foxes.

The 48-year-old United legend, who was assistant manager under ex-United boss Erik ten Hag, is fighting a relegation battle with Leicester in the 2024-25 season.

Leicester have lost all five of their last five Premier League matches under Ruud van Nistelrooy ahead of welcoming Ruben Amorim’s men to the King Power on Sunday.

Speaking in his BBC Sport column, Chris Sutton suggested that the Foxes’ problems started long before Van Nistelrooy’s arrival due to their poor defensive record.

“Leicester have struggled defensively all season but their current lack of goals is an even bigger problem – they have not found the net in any of their past five league matches, and have lost all of them,” he said.

“You could look at the Foxes’ 1-0 defeat against Chelsea last week and think that result was not too bad, but they never looked like scoring – the closest they got to a goal was when a cross came off Blues defender Tosin Adarabioyo’s shoulder, and hit the bar.”

What is Chris Sutton’s Premier League scoreline prediction for Leicester City vs Man Utd?

The Red Devils impressed on their last Premier League outing under Amorim and United were held to a draw against Arsenal at Old Trafford last Sunday.

Sutton remains unconvinced that the Red Devils can deliver the “cutting edge” they lacked against Arsenal and the pundit expects a “tight” match against Leicester.

“Mind you, Manchester United are far from prolific either,” he continued.

“They did improve in the second half of their draw with Arsenal, but they still don’t have much of a cutting edge.

“That makes me think this is going to be close. Leicester gave United a good game in the FA Cup at Old Trafford a few weeks ago and were beaten by Harry Maguire’s controversial stoppage-time winner.

“This time it is going to be just as tight, and I think the points will be shared.”

Sutton’s scoreline prediction for the Premier League encounter between Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side and Amorim’s men was 1-1 at the King Power.
