United Swoop For Portuguese Ace Said To Be 'Inevitable' As Club Close In On £50M Summer Transfer

Geovany Quenda’s transfer to Manchester United has been described as “inevitable” by the Portuguese media.

The teenager has worked under Ruben Amorim before and he is well versed in the manager’s 3-4-3 system, being mostly deployed as a right wingback.

Tabloid A BOLA claim it is almost certain that Quenda will become a United player with the Red Devils having effectively “reserved” the Portuguese Under 21 international.

While a formal bid has not been lodged, it does appear that initial conversations have been held, whereby it is assumed that an offer will be tabled over the coming weeks.

How much will Quenda cost?

The 17-year-old does have a €100m (£84m) release clause in his contract but A BOLA believe that Sporting are willing to accept almost half that amount.

€60m (£50m) is still a sizeable sum considering Quenda’s lack of experience. The youngster has only made 43 first-team appearances, all of which have come this season.

United may have to raise funds to finance such a move

Speaking last month, Amorim confirmed that the Manchester club will have to sell players if they want to bring in new signings during the summer transfer window.

That is not what any supporter will want to hear but the Red Devils have been backed into a corner due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.

If Marcus Rashford does join Aston Villa on a permanent basis for £40m in July, that would go some way to raising the £50m required for Quenda. However, if that deal doesn’t materialise, then some sacrifices may have to be made before the transfer is sanctioned. The likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho have been linked with moves away from Old Trafford. Due to both players being homegrown, they would go down as pure profit on the balance sheet, freeing up more funds for future incomings.
