Alexander Isak continues to be linked with a big money move to Arsenal or Chelsea this summer.
Arsenal and Chelsea have been sent further clues over a potential summer swoop for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak with updates from Fabrizio Romano and the player himself today.
The Swedish international has been heavily linked with the two London outfits as he continues to impress on Tyneside. The 25-year-old has plundered 22 goals in all competitions this season and is the league’s most sought-after striker.
The Gunners have long been linked with a move for Isak and are known to be in the market for a striker this summer. Injuries to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus have highlighted the need for a new talisman but that was plain to see even before those fitness blows.
Fabrizio Romano gives Alexander Isak transfer update
Andrea Berta is the new man in charge of the club’s transfer strategy and TeamTALK this week touted an ‘unprecedented’ summer of spending with a big money move for Isak still on the cards. Meanwhile, Football.London carried the latest on Chelsea’s transfer plans around the player this week.
Writing in his daily newsletter for GiveMeSport, transfer guru Romano was asked if Newcastle United can hope to hold onto both Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak this summer. He said: “Newcastle will do their best to keep their stars, for sure, but it won’t be easy. Big proposals are coming, especially for Isak, so it will be complicated to keep both.”
Isak himself spoke about his future today as he previewed Sunday’s Carabao Cup final. Newcastle United are trying to agree a new contract with the striker, despite his current deal still having three years to run.
Newcastle United talisman to make big summer decision
The player himself admitted that those talks are yet to take off and it seems much could depend on whether Newcastle United qualify for the Champions League this season. Isak said: “I think I’ve said I’m not really thinking about the summer but yeah, that’ll probably be a talking point once the season is finished. We will really see because no talks have been held yet.
“About my future, it’s nothing really I think about. I’ve said many times during a season, just focus on the job and now is probably the worst time to think about anything else, so all of our focus is just on Sunday. As I have said many times, I don’t really look too much or think too much about my future. I have said I am happy here and we are contenders for titles, which is what you want to win as a football player. We have been to one final and now we are in another one, so the chances are there.
“This club can achieve great things. I think we should really look at it one season at a time and this season we can achieve winning a trophy which would be amazing for everyone.”
In other news, these are the three priorities that Andrea Berta must ensure he works on first as he arrives at the Emirates Stadium.
