Cowboys Poach 10-Sack Standout Dante Fowler Jr. From Commanders

The Dallas Cowboys are bringing back Dante Fowler, Jr. who agreed to terms on a one-year, $6 million contract. Fowler could earn up to $8 million with play time incentives and accelerators.

The move - predicted earlier this week by CowboysCountry.com's Mike Fisher - was first reported as a done deal by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport on social media.

The defensive end left the Cowboys in 2023, but will make his return in 2025.

Fowler was the third overall pick in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Fowler missed his rookie campaign due to a torn ACL he sustained in a spring practice session.

He spent his first four seasons in the league with the Jaguars primarily as a pass rusher. He finished his four years with 14 total sacks.

In addition to Jacksonville and the Washington Commanders, where he played the last two seasons, Fowler also played for the Atlanta Falcons and the Los Angeles Rams.

The Cowboys are counting on Fowler to help replace DeMarcus Lawrence who departed for the Seattle Seahawks.

Fowler joins Solomon Thomas and Payton Turner as additions to the Micah Parsons-led defensive line. The Cowboys also lost Chauncey Golston to the New York Giants.

The former Florida Gators star had a productive season with the Commanders during their playoff run of 2024. Playing on a one-year deal, he had 10.5 sacks, which is one off of his personal best of 11.5 when he was with the Rams.

Fowler also had 14 tackles for loss. It was the second time in his career that he topped 10 or more.
