One of the hottest items of the offseason in the NFL has been the situation surrounding Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase, and what would happen with his contract extension.
Ever since Chase held out before the 2024 season, the Bengals have been very vocal about the fact that they planned to sign him to a long-term deal in the future, and that they were going to make him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league.
On Friday afternoon, it was widely reported that the two sides were close to coming to a deal, and according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Bengals are planning to make good on their promise.
According to Schefter, "the expectation around the league is that Ja'Marr Chase's new deal, if and when it gets done, will average somewhere in the range of $40.1 million to $41 million per year, topping Myles Garrett and making him the highest-paid non-QB in the NFL, as the Bengals said he would be."
At the moment, the highest-paid receiver in the NFL is Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson, who makes $35 million per year on his $140 million contract. Earlier this offseason, Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett signed a four-year extension with $123 million guaranteed, seeing him get paid about $40 million per year.
Should this deal between Chase and the Bengals get done, he would take over as the highest-paid non-QB in the league for the time being.
Chase attained the receiver's triple crown last season as led the league in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns.
