**Everton 1 (Thomas 49) Arsenal 2 (Butler-Oyedeji 16, 44)**

Nathan Butler-Oyedeji sent a message to Mikel Arteta by scoring a brace as Arsenal U21s won 2-1 away to Everton tonight.

The attacker has been on the fringes of the first-team squad for the past two months but has received just one minute of playing time despite the lack of attacking options for Arteta’s team.

Tonight Butler-Oyedeji, who was making his first appearance at this level since January, provided an indication of what he is capable of before being replaced at half time by Khayon Edwards, who missed a penalty.

Winger Ismeal Kabia, who has also been involved with the first-team recently, played 74 minutes.

Schoolboy centre-back Marli Salmon was again selected at this level as he made his third appearance in Premier League 2.

Arsenal took the lead in the 16th minute through Butler-Oyedeji, with captain Salah-Eddine providing the assist.

Butler-Oyedeji then proceeded to make it 2-0 just before half time.

Edwards replaced Butler-Oyedeji at the interval.

Aled Thomas got a goal back for Everton shortly after the break.

Arsenal were then awarded a penalty when Andre Harriman-Annous was fouled in the area by Jack Patterson.

Edwards stepped up to take the spot kick but his effort was kept out by Zan-Luk Leban.

Osman Kamara came on for Kabia, with Josh Nichols then replacing trialist Marcell Washington.

Arsenal held on for the victory and are in ninth place in Premier League 2.
