Liverpool stunned Manchester United with a convincing 3-0 victory at Anfield in the Women's Super League.
Olivia Smith's brace and a superb strike from Fuka Nagano helped The Reds to an impressive victory over their rivals on Merseyside.
United, in strong form heading into the game, started on the front foot. Celin Bizet tested goalkeeper Rachael Laws with a shot after a mistake at the back from Jasmine Matthews, but chances were few and far between in the early stages.
The visitors were controlling possession and looking the more likely to break the deadlock, though, and manager Marc Skinner looked a composed figure on the touchline.
Gabby George forced Laws into action again with a header from a corner, before Grace Clinton had an effort from the edge of the box saved.
But against the run of play, Liverpool took the lead just before half-time.
Smith made a smart run into the box from wide on the right, evading United's defenders, before firing a low finish below Phallon Tullis-Joyce, who had up until then been a spectator.
United, rocked by the concession of such an unexpected goal, were punished again moments later.
This time it was Nagano who did the damage, curling a sumptuous finish into the far corner after good work from Sam Kerr.
A disciplined defensive performance and some clinical finishing had Liverpool in a strong position at the break, and there was little change when the game resumed.
United continued to search for openings with little success, while the hosts looked a consistent threat in transition.
A driving run from Cornelia Kapocs ended in a shot that drifted wide, but with just over an hour played, Liverpool were presented with the opportunity to further extend their lead.
Alejandra Bernabe was brought down in the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Smith stepped up and fired her penalty past the stretching Tullis-Joyce.
United, in an attempt to respond to the damaging third goal, increased the urgency, but it seemed likely to be a night to forget for Skinner's side.
Melvine Malard found space in the Liverpool box but could only pull a shot wide, before Hinata Miyazawa had an effort saved.
There was a glimmer of hope, though, in the 89th minute when Maya Le Tissier was picked out by Miyazawa, surged into the box and finished coolly to pull a goal back.
But it was no more than a consolation for United, who slipped to third as a result of defeat. A memorable victory for Liverpool meant they climbed to fifth.

Gunners too good for tricky Toffees
-----------------------------------
Arsenal moved above Manchester United into second in the WSL table with a 3-1 victory over Everton at Walton Hall Park.
Alessia Russo scored twice to boost her Golden Boot hopes, either side of a Maren Mjelde own goal. Toni Payne equalised for the home side in the first half, but Arsenal's quality proved too much as the game progressed.
Arsenal, looking to close the gap to United, began brightly, causing problems with some clever movement and slick passing. Everton were a clear threat on the break, too, and Honoka Hayashi brought a save from Manuela Zinsberger early on.
The visitors proved without much penetration, until Russo netted her 14th goal of the season just before the half-hour mark, meeting Kim Little's cutback and firing her finish in off the post.
Both sides traded attacks as the half progressed, and Little came closer to scoring herself with an ambitious effort from a tight angle.
But Everton drew level after 36 minutes when Katja Snoeijs' shot was blocked and fell to Payne, who stretched to prod home from close range.
Justine Vanhaevermaet tested Zinsberger with a long-range effort shortly after, but the teams went into half-time level.
Arsenal were quick out of the blocks after the break, with Chloe Kelly forcing a smart save from Courtney Brosnan.
After more promising build-up and mounting pressure, The Gunners were rewarded just past the hour mark. Emily Fox's low cross was too good to keep out, bundled over the line at the back post with defender Mjelde getting the final touch.
Arsenal threatened to pull away having regained the lead, and were unfortunate when Steph Catley hit the bar with a header before Kyra Cooney-Cross was denied by the post.
Everton were indebted to Brosnan, who did well to save a Katie McCabe shot and the subsequent follow-up from Beth Mead.
Brosnan was on hand again to deny Stina Blackstenius, but a half that was dominated by the away side ended with a decisive goal. Mead was the creator, threading a ball through to Russo, who rounded Brosnan and stroked the ball into an empty net.
Victory for Arsenal saw them leapfrog United into second on goal difference, while Everton remain eighth.
