Newcastle United star reveals how Wembley sadness will fuel him in Carabao Cup final

Lee Ryder's press conference review

Joelinton is ready to take a shot at redemption with Newcastle United beneath the famous Wembley arch on Sunday.

The Brazil international is back from a knee injury that forced him out of the Carabao Cup semi-final and three Premier League games. But now he is keen to not only make up for lost time this season, but also ensure that the memories of the 2023 Carabao Cup final are erased.

Newcastle favourite Joelinton played the full 90 minutes against Manchester United two years ago but could not get a grip of the midfield battle. This time he will face Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister in an engine room battler where the game will be won or lost.

However, Joelinton told reporters that he was fuelled by the defeat to Man United and does not want to sample the same horrible empty feeling after the game. Joelinton said: "Every game, every disappointment, you learn something from. It is the same for when you win or when you lose.

"It's a new game. We have another chance and we'll do our best to get the title. The most important thing is to win the game and win the title, for me that's most important and if I score, great, if not I'm happy if the team win."

Joelinton has netted four times this season but knows whoever scores at Wembley could be achieving something that may change history forever. Fans are arriving in the capital ahead of their Wembley weekend and have already painted the city black and white.

The ex-Hoffenheim man said: "We are very excited and I hope at the end we take the title back to Newcastle.

"It means a lot. Playing in finals in big games is where we want to be as a team. I'm really happy and I hope at the end this time we can enjoy."
