Liverpool are preparing to make a significant push for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak this summer, with the Swedish international set to attract “big proposals” in the coming months.
According to Fabrizio Romano via Give Me Sport, Newcastle will fight to keep their star forward, but serious interest from top clubs—including Liverpool and Arsenal—will make that increasingly difficult.
He said: “Newcastle will do their best to keep their stars, for sure, but it won’t be easy. Big proposals are coming, especially for Isak, so it will be complicated to keep both [Isak and Guimaraes].”
Isak has been in sensational form this season, scoring 19 goals and providing five assists in 26 Premier League appearances. With Arne Slot set to reshape Liverpool’s attack, the 25-year-old is emerging as a prime target to lead the line at Anfield next season.
Núñez thrived in Jürgen Klopp’s high-intensity, counter-attacking style, where his raw energy and unpredictability could be assets. However, Slot’s approach requires more precision in link-up play and finishing – qualities that Isak has demonstrated at a high level in the Premier League.
The Newcastle striker’s ability to operate both as a traditional no. 9 and as a fluid forward would make him an ideal fit for Liverpool’s evolving system.
His combination of pace, technical ability, and finishing could be exactly what the Reds need to take their attack to the next level.
Financial backing and competition from Arsenal
Liverpool have been relatively restrained in the transfer market recently, bringing in only Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili, but that could change this summer. With Richard Hughes taking over recruitment, the Reds are expected to have significant funds available to strengthen key areas.
The main obstacle in securing Isak’s signature will be competition from Arsenal, who have long been linked with the striker.
Additionally, reports suggest that Newcastle could demand upwards of £100 million for their prized asset, with some speculation about a potential release clause.
Isak could be the missing piece for Liverpool
With Mohamed Salah’s future uncertain and Núñez struggling to adapt, Liverpool’s attack is at a crossroads.
A move for Isak would not only secure a proven Premier League goal scorer but also bring in a player perfectly suited to Slot’s tactical demands.
As the summer window approaches, Liverpool appear ready to make a statement – and Alexander Isak could be the marquee signing that signals the start of a new era at Anfield.
