Less than 72 hours after parting ways with the Los Angeles Rams, Super Bowl LVI MVP Cooper Kupp has already found a new home - and with a former divisional foe, no less.
The 2021 NFL Offensive Player of the Year is expected to sign a three-year, $45 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks, per NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter. After weeks of speculation as to where he would land, Kupp opted to return to his home state of Washington and don the blue and green of Seattle this fall.
Kupp's signing marks the latest domino to fall in what has already been a busy offseason for the Seahawks. After trading 2024 starting quarterback Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders and parting ways with two of their top wideouts in DK Metcalf (traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers) and Tyler Lockett (released), Seattle immediately got to work on revamping their roster over the last five days.
On Monday, the Seahawks landed their potential quarterback of the future in Sam Darnold, signing the former Minnesota Vikings signal caller to a three-year, $100.5 million deal. Now, in addition to 2024 Pro Bowler Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Seattle has another prime receiving target in the 31-year-old Kupp, whose deal runs concurrently with the 27-year-old Darnold's.
Despite only appearing in 12 games last season, Kupp still appears to have plenty of gas left in the tank. In 2024, he reeled in 67 catches for 710 yards and six touchdowns, ranking second on the team in all three categories. Puka Nacua led Los Angeles in catches and receiving yards, while DeMarcus Robinson, who recently signed a two-year deal of his own with the San Francisco 49ers, caught a team-high seven touchdown passes.
The void left behind by Kupp is sure to be filled by All-Pro wideout Davante Adams, who agreed to a two-year, $44 million contract with Los Angeles on Sunday. Nevertheless, it still may take some getting used to for Rams fans to see Kupp on the opposing sideline in their two games against the Seahawks this coming season.
