Green Bay Packers Miss Out On Another Top Wide Receiver As Seattle Seahawks Sign DK Metcalf…

The Green Bay Packers continue to miss out on the big names of the 2025 wide receiver free agent cycle. After watching the Pittsburgh Steelers complete a trade for Seattle Seahawks standout wide receiver DK Metcalf, who was a reported target of the Pack, Green Bay has now stood by again and watched the Seahawks agree to terms with former Los Angeles Ram Cooper Kupp, who fans were begging the Pack to sign after missing out on Metcalf.

Cooper Kupp Heading Back to the Pacific Northwest Amid Green Bay Packers Rumors

Weeks earlier, the Los Angeles Rams were informed that star wideout Cooper Kupp was seeking a trade. With the ascension of teammate Puka Nacua and the bloated extension beginning to kick in, Kupp was no longer an effective asset for the Rams.

After weeks of speculation, the Rams, unable to find someone willing to trade anything of value for Kupp’s inflated contract and aging body, which has fought through many injuries in recent times, cut one of their top players. Just years after winning the Super Bowl in 2021, Kupp was free to sign with any team.

Green Bay Packers fans and media speculated that the team would target Kupp. After the Packers rumored links to players like Seattle’s DK Metcalf turned out to be unfruitful, the Packers would now be able to target a desirable wide receiver free agent. However , late Friday, Kupp chose to sign with Seattle, effectively replacing Metcalf as one of the Seahawks’ top targets and joining a receiving corps that already features the electric Jaxson Smith-Njigba.

Kupp, who went to high school in the state of Washington and attended Eastern Washington University following that, returns to his home state. His new quarterback will be former Minnesota Vikings signal-caller Sam Darnold, who signed with Seattle earlier this week after the team dealt Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders, preferring to sign Darnold to a cheaper, 3-year deal.

Meanwhile, the Rams are moving forward with former Packer Davante Adams, who signed with the team earlier this week. With Kupp moving on, the Rams have a new veteran wideout to pair with the exciting Nacua.

Did the Green Bay Packers Dodge a Bullet By Losing Out on Kupp Sweepstakes?

As exciting as a signing like Cooper Kupp is, the 3-year, $45-million-dollar deal the Seahawks signed him to is certainly a hefty sum. While it is certainly more reasonable deal than his previous one, which included an almost-30-million-dollar cap hit for next year, it still is a lot of money for a 31-year-old who figures to be past his prime.

Few receivers have multiple high-level seasons left once they are past 30, and while Kupp may turn out to be one of them, the Packers opting for a younger player or a shorter-term, risk-mitigating deal on a veteran could definitely make more sense.

The Packers would still love to upgrade their receiving corps before training camp, and there still exists plenty of reasonable veteran receivers that could upgrade the roster. Some of the bigger names include Stefon Diggs, who, although is coming off a season-ending injury, still figures to offer much to a team on a shorter-term deal, Tyler Lockett, whom Seattle recently parted ways with due to his own inflated contract, Keenan Allen, the ex-Chicago Bear, Amari Cooper, whom the Bills traded for midway through last season, and more.
