“Kind of Relieved;” Green Bay Packers Fans React to Team Missing Out on Last Noteworthy Free…

Going into the 2025 NFL offseason, many presumed that the Green Bay Packers would make the wide receiver position a priority in free agency and/or the NFL Draft. And while the draft has not yet happened, all of the big-name wide receivers are off the market. The only move Green Bay made at the position was to tender a contract to Bo Melton.

Prior to this week, many fans expected the Packers to be contenders for landing a bonified number one wide receiver like Tee Higgins, Davante Adams, and DK Metcalf. However, Higgins was franchise tagged by the Cincinnati Bengals, Adams signed with the Los Angeles Rams, and Metcalf was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

And according to reports, Green Bay did not even try to land any of them.

The Green Bay Packers Were Recently Linked to Cooper Kupp

With all of their top choices off the market, many Packers fans turned their attention to former Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who was recently released by Los Angeles. However, there were also many fans who did not want to see Green Bay sign the former Super Bowl MVP.

In 2021, Kupp won the NFL wide receiver Triple Crown with 145 receptions, 1,947 yards, and 16 touchdowns. However, since that season, he has not played more than 12 games in a single season due to a wide variety of injuries.

Last season, the one-time Pro Bowler had 67 receptions for 710 yards and six touchdowns.

When the 2025 NFL season starts, he will be 32 years old, and he was reportedly seeking a multi-year deal.

Despite these factors, the Packers were named as one of the teams that was interested in him when his release became official.

On Friday, it was announced that the Seattle Seahawks had signed Kupp to a three-year $45 million contract. A native of the state of Washington, Kupp gets to play closer to home and make over $10 million a year on a multi-year deal.

And many Packers fans are relieved that their team is not the one paying him:

Cooper Kupp’s $15M a year is more than our entire WR room combined lmao and the packers still make the playoffs year in and year out

Tough day for the “I’ve heard of this guy so the packers should sign him despite me not watching him play in several years” crowd https://t.co/P661KD21z2

Of course, the Packers do need some depth at the wide receiver position with Christian Watson likely out until November as he recovers from a torn ACL.

However, it now seems apparent Green Bay will be addressing that need in the NFL Draft.
