Syracuse, N.Y. — Former [Syracuse basketball](https://www.syracuse.com/orangebasketball/) forward Oshae Brissett signed a 10-day contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, the team said Friday.
Brissett heads to the shorthanded Sixers via a hardship exemption, allowing the team to temporarily add extra players on its roster.
The Sixers have been crushed by injuries. The nucleus of star players the team was built around — Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey — have dealt with injuries throughout the season.
Additionally, guards Kyle Lowry, Eric Gordon and Lonnie Walker were ruled out for Friday’s game against the Indiana Pacers, and three other players are also as questionable.
The 6-foot-7 Brissett has yet to appear in an NBA game this season after [opting out of his contract with the NBA champion Boston Celtics](https://www.syracuse.com/orangebasketball/2024/07/oshae-brissett-leaves-canadian-olympic-team-camp-to-focus-on-finding-next-nba-team.html) last summer to become a free agent.
He most recently was playing for the Long Island Nets in the G League. In 11 games, Brissett averaged 12.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.2 steals.
In Philadelphia, Brissett reunites with coach Nick Nurse, who coached the Toronto Raptors when the team signed Brissett as an undrafted rookie out of Syracuse in 2019.
Nurse and Brissett also spent time together with the Canadian national team.
Brissett, 26, averaged 11.5 minutes off the bench in 55 games last season but was a smaller piece to the Celtics’ rotation than when he suited up for the Indiana Pacers from 2020-2023.
Brissett has appeared in 227 games over his career, with 44 starts. He’s averaged 6.5 points and 3.9 rebounds per game and has shot 41.6% from the floor, 33.7% from 3 and 69.8% from the free throw line.
