Smith's injury 'costing more than expected' with return date still unknown

ADAM Smith’s injury is ‘costing more than he expected’, with the right back still ruled out.

[Andoni Iraola said at the end of February that Smith had picked up a calf issue in his recovery from a hamstring injury, which forced him off at half time against Manchester United in December.](https://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/24972474.adam-smith-suffers-setback-rehab-injury/)

Asked for an update on Smith’s recovery, Iraola told the Daily Echo: “He's still not with the team. It's costing him more than he expected, but we cannot do anything else but wait for him.

“I think he's someone that is important. He's trying to help even without playing. But obviously if we can have him on the pitch, much better for us.”

On if there is a timeframe for his return, Iraola said: “I don't know because he has gone through ups and downs.

“Sometimes he's close, sometimes he looks ok, so he has had some issues in the recovery and I don't have any timetable.

“I think whenever he feels ready and can start to think with the group, obviously better for him and for us.”
