Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia has finally addressed the swirling rumors surrounding Kevin Durant's future with the team. In a recent interview, Ishbia provided insight into the franchise's plans, hinting at potential offseason moves while reaffirming his commitment to building a championship contender.
The Suns have struggled this season, currently sitting outside the playoff picture with a disappointing record. Despite Durant's impressive individual performance, averaging 26.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game, the team has failed to find consistent success. This has led to speculation that the Suns may consider trading Durant to retool their roster.
"I'll just say that we're going to evaluate in the offseason," Ishbia said. "We're going to find a way to win, and it's probably a lot easier winning with Kevin Durant than without him. But at the same time, yes, if we're not good enough in this iteration of the Phoenix Suns, we're going to find a way to be better next year."
While Ishbia's comments suggest that Durant remains a key piece of the team's plans, he also left the door open for changes if the current roster doesn't meet expectations. As the offseason approaches, the spotlight will remain on the Suns' front office and their decisions regarding Durant. Whether they choose to double down on their current core or explore trade options, one thing is clear: Ishbia is determined to bring a championship to Phoenix.
