The PGMOL have made their referee announcement for the Tottenham vs Fulham game on Sunday.
Tottenham Hotspur make the short trip to Fulham this weekend, looking to get back to winning ways in the Premier League.
They drew 2-2 to Bournemouth in the league last time out after goals from Pape Sarr and Heung-Min Son helped Ange Postecoglou’s side come from behind to earn a point at home. They are now 13th in the league, eight points away from Fulham.
In their last game, Postecoglou’s side booked their place in the Europa League quarter-finals by beating AZ 3-1 in the second leg of their tie, to win 3-2 on aggregate. Two coals came from Wilson Odobert while James Maddison also found the net.
They play a Fulham side that has won three of their last five games and remain in the hunt for European football under Marco Silva.
PGMOL confirm referee for Fulham vs Tottenham
The Premier League has appointed Andy Madley as the referee for their trip to Fulham at the weekend. Madley has refereed 19 games this season, in the Premier League, Carabao Cup and the Championship. He’s shown 70 yellow cards and two red cards.
Madley was last seen during a 0-0 draw between Arsenal and Nottingham Forest late in February. He last managed a Tottenham game in January when they lost 2-1 to Newcastle United in controversial fashion.
In Newcastle’s first goal, which Anthony Gordon scored, the ball was seen to strike the hand of Joelinton in the build-up, but Madley didn’t see it. VAR did not overrule the decision either as Joelinton’s hand was in a ‘natural position’ according to Chris Kavanagh.
After the game, Spurs boss Postecoglou was fuming with the decision. He said: “I'm just really, really angry, angriest I think I have ever been in my career that they were denied the right rewards for a fantastic performance.
“If that was a different day and it was an even and fair playing ground we would have won that game. You want my opinion - if all things were equal and balanced we would have won.”
Postecoglou and Madley will hope that there aren’t any controversial decisions to be made this weekend against Fulham.
Who has been appointed as Madley’s assistant and VAR?
For the game on Sunday, Andy Madley will have a supporting cast beginning with Nick Hopton, who will be the first assistant. Hopton was last seen during a 1-0 win for Crystal Palace against Ipswich.
Craig Taylor is going to be the second assistant in the game. He was last seen during Manchester City’s 3-1 win against Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup. Taylor was also part of the officials’ team during the controversial Newcastle defeat. Simon Hooper will be the fourth official, he was involved during the 2-2 draw against Bournemouth last time out for Spurs.
The VAR will be Paul Tierney, he has only worked as a VAR this season, despite last season being one of the referees in rotation for the Premier League.
