The latest transfer headlines from the Premier League, including updates from Newcastle, Liverpool and Manchester United
Carabao Cup finalists Newcastle United and Liverpool are expected to battle it out to secure the signature of talented Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White in the summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old, who made his England debut earlier this season, is described by Give Me Sport as Eddie Howe’s ‘ideal’ summer signing as he looks to add some flair and creativity to a talented midfielder which already includes the likes of Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and youngster Lewis Miley.
The Magpies boast an excellent midfield but are still missing a natural number 10 with the ability to link play and create chances to give the team a new dimension which is something Gibbs-White has been renowned for this season for a high-flying Forest team that are currently on course to achieve Champions League qualification.
However, Liverpool are also thought to be in the market for another attacking midfielder to boost their chances of maintaining their position at the Premier League summit, as per TBR Football.
The outlet also suggests Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the 25-year-old but believes the Magpies are the most likely to make a move.
Why Newcastle and Liverpool want Morgan Gibbs-White
Morgan Gibbs-White is currently enjoying his best top-flight campaign to date and has found the net five times and provided six assists from midfield in 26 appearances this term for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
The two-cap England international, who has been described as having the ability to 'play for absolutely anyone' by pundit Peter Crouch, has a sofa score rating of 7.24 which makes him one of the most consistent performers for Forest this season. He is also blessed with exceptional ball control, sensational passing range and a desire to track back and win possession back for his team.

The former Wolves midfielder’s £45m move to the City Ground raised a few eyebrows after the club’s promotion but he has proven to be one of the catalysts in the team’s dramatic rise up the Premier League.
3AM verdict: Morgan Gibbs-White is under contract until 2027 and at this stage Nottingham Forest have no desire to part ways with one of their prize assets particularly with Champions League football potentially being one the horizon, as per TBR Football. However, Newcastle are in a position to spend this summer after a subdued 24 months in the transfer market and could be willing to test Forest’s resolve with a big offer.
Elsewhere, Liverpool are also thought to be in a position to spend big again this summer after not spending a significant amount in Arne Slot’s first transfer window and would also see Gibbs-White as the calibre of player that could enhance their squad. For the right price, Gibbs-White would be a great addition to both teams, but Nottingham Forest appear unlikely to part ways with one of their star players unless they receive a huge fee.
Chelsea hit Man Utd with double blow
Champions League hopefuls Chelsea are understood to be in talks with Sporting CP over a move for 20-year-old defensive midfielder Dário Essugo.
The 20-year-old, who made his debut under Ruben Amorim in the Portuguese capital had been linked with a move to Manchester United to bolster their midfield options amid uncertainty surrounding the future of Kobbie Mainoo, talk of Casemiro moving to Saudi Arabia and the frequent injury problems of Mason Mount. However, based on recent reports from Ben Jacobs it appears Chelsea have leapfrogged the Red Devils in their quest to get the deal over the line.
Jacobs posted on X: “Chelsea are also in talks with Sporting for 20-year-old defensive midfielder Dário Essugo, who is currently on loan at Las Palmas. Deal not done yet but club-to-club talks are taking place.”
3AM Verdict: Chelsea’s approach for Dario Essugo could mark a double blow for Manchester United after Sky Sports confirmed the club’ssuccessful deal to sign Geovany Quenda. This will undoubtedly come as a concern for Ruben Amorim who is yet to make his mark on the transfer front after succeeding Erik ten Hag.
He faces a big task getting the Red Devils back on track next season but has so far based on the impact of Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven made a decent impact on the transfer front with limited resources.
