**DayofPal**\-The United States and European nations announced Friday a decision to block Al-Aqsa TV from all satellite networks, a move that has been met with strong condemnation from Hamas and Palestinian media organizations.
The joint U.S.-European decision includes severe financial penalties for any satellite operator that continues to broadcast the channel. Additionally, satellite providers hosting Al-Aqsa TV face potential accusations of “supporting terrorism,” according to the ruling.
In response, the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas issued a statement denouncing the ban as “a blatant violation of press freedom” and “an attack on the Palestinian people’s right to make their voices heard worldwide.”
Hamas further described the decision as a direct assault on independent Palestinian journalism, which it says plays a crucial role in exposing Israeli attacks in the occupied territories.
“This unjust decision is part of a broader campaign to silence free Palestinian media and suppress coverage of our people’s suffering,” the statement read.
“It reflects ongoing attempts to censor voices that expose the occupation’s crimes and to block international media from reporting on the situation in Gaza.”
Hamas called on international media organizations and press freedom advocates to condemn the ban and to take a stand against what it views as an effort to stifle independent journalism.
It also warned that “all attempts to erase the truth will fail” and vowed that Palestinian media outlets would continue their work despite increasing restrictions.
The Palestinian Journalists Forum also strongly criticized the decision, calling it a “dangerous precedent” that aligns with Israeli efforts to suppress Palestinian narratives.
In a statement, the forum said the move highlights “double standards” in the global discourse on press freedom, where certain voices are protected while others are silenced.
“The targeting of Al-Aqsa TV is a direct attack on freedom of the press, which is supposed to be a fundamental right under international law,” the forum stated.
“This ban serves as yet another attempt to obscure the realities of Israeli occupation and prevent global audiences from witnessing the ongoing violations against Palestinian civilians.”
The group urged international press organizations, human rights groups, and the United Nations to take a firm stance against the ban. It also called on the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to intervene and support Palestinian media outlets under increasing restrictions.
Furthermore, Palestinian media advocates urged Arab and Muslim-majority satellite operators to resist U.S. and European pressure and to continue hosting Al-Aqsa TV to ensure that its message remains accessible.
Despite these mounting challenges, Palestinian journalists vowed to continue their work, asserting that “efforts to block the truth will not deter the free press from exposing injustices and amplifying the voices of the Palestinian people.”
