Nico Williams release clause, Arsenal transfer truth and'I'll never'vow

Nico Williams continues to be one of the star-studded names linked with a move to Arsenal in the summer transfer window. The Athletic Bilbao star is one of Europe's most-talented forwards and is primed for a summer move.

The Spain international has registered 16 goal contributions this season and helped Bilbao reach the Europa League quarter-finals this week. Williams is expected to be the subject of strong interest at the end of the season but the Gunners aren't alone.

Bayern Munich and Barcelona have both been tipped to swoop in in the summer. The 22-year-old has a release clause in his contract, believed to be worth between €60million-€80million (£50.5m-£67.3m),

Here, football.london provides a round-up of what's the latest on Williams' future...

Bayern Munich battle

German giants Bayern Munich have entered the race to sign Williams. Christian Falk has claimed that Vincent Kompany is keen on the forward to improve his forward line.

Leroy Sane's contract is set to expire in June meaning Bayern could be in the market for a marquee signing in the summer.

Arsenal advantage

According to reports in Spain, Arsenal have an advantage in their pursuit of Nico Williams. Todo Fichajes has claimed that the forward has instructed his agent to finalise terms with the Gunners.

football.london reported back in January that Arsenal remain keen on the player in 2025.

Furthermore, Bayern Munich may have to sell players to move for Williams. Sane is likely to depart at the end of the season with Kingsley Coman is another option to be sold. It could leave the door open for Arsenal.

Bilbao loyalty

Amid interest from outside of Bilbao, Williams has commented on his love and loyalty to the club. "This relationship we have at the heart of the club is incredible," he told France Football. "Everyone respects everyone else, which is incredible.

"This atmosphere, I'll never have it anywhere else. I decided to stay because of that. I took the decision [to stay in 2024] I thought was the right one. I'm happy, and I'm trying to do my best."
