Barcelona moved into the quarter-finals of the [Champions League on Tuesday by beating Benfica](https://www.barcablaugranes.com/2025/3/11/24382028/barcelona-benfica-champions-league-round-16-2nd-leg-final-score-match-report-recap-reactions) to set up a clash with Borussia Dortmund.
Bitter rivals Real Madrid are also in the last eight after beating Atletico in a shootout that saw Julian Alvarez have a penalty controversially ruled out for a double touch.
The two La Liga giants are on opposite sides of the draw and so can only meet in the final, and Pau Cubarsi shared his thoughts on the prospect of facing Los Blancos in May.
> “Yes, Madrid always does things well. We’re also doing well, and I think we could meet in a final because they’re a great team, and so are we, so it will be a great final to watch. Although yes, Atlético is also in La Liga and can also be competitive,” he told Mundo Deportivo.
Barcelona and Cubarsi have another huge game at the weekend against Atletico and the defender says he expect Diego Simeone’s side to start finish despite a draining week.
> “In the two games we’ve played against Atlético, they’ve always come out all guns blazing,” he added.
>
> “Twice, we had to be focused in the last ten minutes. We expect an Atlético that will come out all guns blazing, that will run the entire game, as is their style. We have to be focused for the entire ninety or ninety-five minutes.
Sunday’s result may well have a big say in where the title ends up at the end of the season. A win for Barca will see them move four clear of Atletico.
