PETALING JAYA - A 56-year-old man narrowly escaped death when an iron rod pierced his skull after his motorcycle skidded in Sik, Kedah.
Malay daily Sinar Harian reported that Mr Azlan Mahmood was seriously injured in the head after an accident at Kampung Bukit Hangus, Jalan Jeneri, on the morning of March 15.
Sik Fire and Rescue Station chief Assistant Fire Superintendent Mohd Jamil Mat said they received an emergency call before dispatching members to the scene.
“Upon arrival, firefighters found the victim seriously injured with an iron rod penetrating the side of his face up to his head,” he said.
First aid was given before Mr Azlan was taken to the Sik Hospital by a Yayasan Jariah Malaysia ambulance.
He added that surgery to remove the iron rod was conducted at Sik Hospital, and Mr Azlan remained under medical supervision.
“The operation to remove the 0.6cm rod using special equipment was successfully completed at 12.05pm,” said Supt Mohd Jamil.
“The victim was then handed over to the hospital for further treatment,” he added. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
