Virgil van Dijk on contract:“The only thing I can say”

Liverpool face an important summer ahead, with key players like Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold approaching the final stages of their contracts.

The club must make crucial decisions, and for Van Dijk, the situation remains uncertain.

The Dutch defender is still a key figure in Liverpool’s defense.

At 33 years old, he believes he is playing at a high level and wants to continue contributing.

However, a contract extension has yet to be agreed upon, leaving questions about his future.

Despite the uncertainty, Van Dijk remains focused on the present.

With Liverpool chasing silverware, he refuses to let contract talks become a distraction.

But when asked about his future, he was honest about the situation.

Virgil van Dijk on contract: “The only thing I can say”

“Listen, [possibly waiting until the season is over] is definitely the case, so we will see what happens,” he said during the Carabao Cup final build-up.

“Maybe I will run this [contract] fully down and then there is still no news, I don’t know.”

He acknowledged that discussions with his agency are ongoing but admitted there are no guarantees.

“I don’t know at this stage and I said that the other day (after PSG game).”

“But I don’t want to create any anxiety or anything like that, I just keep my head down and focus on hopefully winning the next 10 games and that is my full focus: to be there for the manager, the players, the fans.”

Van Dijk made it clear that his commitment to Liverpool remains strong.

“The only thing I can say – and I have said it already many times – is that I am so proud to be the captain of this beautiful club that means so much to me and has meant so much to me in the past, as well as my family.”

For now, his future is undecided, but his dedication to Liverpool is unquestionable.
