'Disappointing at the time for me': Bowen on first thoughts when he heard Potter got West Ham…

Jarrod Bowen has opened up on his feelings about Graham Potter coming in and taking over at West Ham United.

West Ham parted ways with Julen Lopetegui in January, and brought Graham Potter into the London Stadium to replace the Spaniard.

Since Potter came in, Jarrod Bowen has rediscovered some of his best form, and that’s no coincidence as far as I’m concerned.

Jarrod Bowen has suggested that West Ham sacked Lopetegui because the Spaniard didn’t deliver good results or an attractive playing style.

He’s spot on as well.

Lopetegui simply wasn’t good enough in his role as Hammers boss, and Potter has already proven that he’s head and shoulders above the Spaniard.

The former Wolves, Sevilla and Real Madrid manager completely lost the Hammers dressing room, and he should have been sacked a lot sooner.

Bowen was one of the players who actually put in 100% effort in every game he played under Lopetegui.

So what did he think when Potter replaced the 58-year-old at West Ham?

Jarrod Bowen on his thoughts when Graham Potter got West Ham job

The Hammers skipper is far and away the most important player we have at West Ham.

He is under contract with us until the summer of 2030, and I fully expect him to stay well beyond then.

The question is, will Potter still be in charge in five year’s time?

I’m hoping that he will be, and that he goes on to create a dynasty at the London Stadium.

He has clearly already made a huge impression with the players at West Ham.

Bowen responded when asked about his first impressions after hearing Potter had got the job at West Ham, when speaking to the club’s official website:

“When I heard the news that the manager was coming in, it was an exciting time because you know what he’s achieved in the game in such little time. At Brighton especially, he created a really good squad there. His teams were always difficult to play against and his attacking players were always thriving.

“Once we found out, it was disappointing at the time for me personally because I was injured so I thought, ‘Well I’m no good for you for the month or so that I was out’.“

Those comments from Bowen just highlight his elite mentality as far as I’m concerned.

The fact that he was devastated to be out injured when the new manager came in tells us all we need to know about him.

What West Ham board are saying about Graham Potter behind closed doors

Let’s be honest here, aside from the win at Arsenal, the results haven’t been great under Potter have they?

However, positive change never happens overnight.

And the Hammers owners are said to be hugely impressed already by what the 49-year-old has done at the London Stadium.

If Graham Potter is adequately backed by the West Ham board this summer, he will undoubtedly achieve a lot of success.

And if we are to keep the likes of Jarrod Bowen, the Hammers owners need to start showing some serious ambition.
