Trent Alexander-Arnold has been left out of Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad due to an ankle injury sustained during Liverpool’s midweek match against PSG.
While initial scans have suggested that the injury is not serious, it is expected to keep the right back sidelined for an extended period.
As a result, Alexander-Arnold will miss not only the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle on Sunday but also England’s World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia later this month.
Trent misses out on England squad while other Reds make it
Despite Alexander-Arnold’s absence, Liverpool players Jarell Quansah and Curtis Jones have both been named in the 26-man squad for England’s upcoming fixtures.
Quansah, who has yet to make his senior debut, was on the bench for England’s wins over Greece and the Republic of Ireland in November and had been on standby for the Euros last summer.
Meanwhile, Jones started both of those November games and scored a goal on his debut against Greece. The midfielder will look to build on his positive performances for England.
England squad selected by Tuchel
England’s squad also includes Jordan Henderson, who returns to the fold after a nearly year-long absence from international duty, last being involved in March 2024.
