Everton are undergoing a major overhaul under The Friedkin Group and are showing no signs of slowing down.
The Friedkins are keen to oversee the restructuring of Everton’s leadership group, as evidenced by their decision to move from a single sporting director model to a system led by a sports leadership team.
This is why Kevin Thelwell is departing his role as the director of football when his contract expires in the summer, with Angus Kinnear set to join as the new CEO on 1 June to work closely with David Moyes instead.
Apart from Thelwell, several senior figures, including chief commercial and communications officer Richard Kenyon, are already confirmed to depart the Merseyside-based club.
Angus Kinnear will start as Everton’s CEO on 1 June.
Everton Women CEO Alan McTavish has left
Dan Friedkin and Co do not intend to restrict their overhaul to the men’s senior team as similar changes are also being made to the women’s team.
MORE TOFFEES STORIES
Alan McTavish, the CEO of Everton Women, has left his role with immediate effect, the Premier League club have confirmed, as shared by Joe Thomas on X on Saturday (15 March).
The Toffees added that they will make a further announcement on the leadership structure for the women’s team in due course.
Name Role Status
Angus Kinnear CEO Starting 1 June
Kevin Thelwell Director of Football Leaving in summer
Richard Kenyon Chief Commercial and Communications Officer Leaving
Alan McTavish Everton Women CEO Left
Everton behind-the-scenes changes.
It therefore remains to be seen if the Goodison Park outfit will promote someone within their structure or hire someone from outside to fill the void left by McTavish.
It will also not be a surprise if The Friedkin Group changes the structure of the women’s team altogether.
Nevertheless, this is only the latest part of an overhaul by the new owners, who continue to change things behind the scenes.
Alan McTavish has left his role as CEO of Everton Women.
EFC: “The club wishes Alan every success in the next step of his career.
A further announcement on the club’s leadership structure for Everton Women will be made in due course.”

McTavish legacy at Goodison Park detailed
It is worth noting that McTavish previously functioned as the commercial director of Everton before becoming the managing director of the women’s team in October 2021.
At the time, many wondered if this had to do anything with dealings with Alisher Usmanov, the Russian businessman whose assets were frozen by the EU and the UK.
While Everton widened Kenyon’s role to chief commercial and communications officer in the aftermath, McTavish continued with the women’s team.
He was eventually named the CEO of Everton Women in June 2022, holding the position for two years and 10 months before his departure now.
