Goodison Park and Everton Stadium are expected to have revolving doors this summer as a number of players prepare for an exit.

Everton are preparing for a summer of transformation both on and off the pitch, with their stadium move from Goodison to Bramley-Moore Dock accompanying an expected sea-change to David Moyes’ squad.

No less than 14 Everton players could be on their way out of Merseyside this summer, with five loanees potentially returning to their parent clubs at season’s end and another nine with contracts expiring.

Furthermore, a number of first-team players still with years left to run on their deals could also be shown the door as part of a complete restructuring across all elements of the club, with Moyes at the forefront.

Almost every position on the Goodison Park (and Everton Stadium) pitch is expected to undergo at least some change this summer, with the goalkeeping department being no different to any other.

With Jordan Pickford, Joao Virginia and Asmir Begovic currently on the books, the latter has told World Soccer Magazine (13 March) that he’s ready to assess his options ahead of his contract running down.

Begovic, who returned to Merseyside last summer, said: “I’m 37, in good physical condition and still able to play to a high standard.

“Come the end of the season, I will assess my options and go for the one that suits me and my family.

“I speak several languages, have networks in various countries, so a sporting director role would interest me – I’m also enjoying my media work.

“I want to stay in football in some capacity, but it all depends on being given the right opportunity.”

Everton exit looks inevitable for Asmir Begovic

Begovic looks set to make up the potential double figures worth of departures from the blue half of Merseyside this summer; his interview suggesting that his time as an Everton player could well be up.

While Moyes may want to keep the Bosnian in the fold in an off-field capacity should he decide to retire – as he’s made clear regarding Seamus Coleman – it remains to be seen if Begovic would be keen to do so.

The 37-year-old admitting that he still feels fit enough to be a top-level player, despite being yet to make an appearance this season, suggests a move to another Premier League side could be in the offing.

Everton have been hesitant to launch themselves into new contract talks with players since The Friedkin Group’s takeover in December, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin still having a huge cloud over his future.

This suggests the offer of a new deal could be coming Begovic’s way, but him being part of Everton’s long-term strategy – on the pitch at least – looks unlikely.
