Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett could be set to star for the Cleveland Browns. Pickett, who was introduced earlier this week, said that he would welcome any competition, including Russell Wilson, but he views himself as a starting quarterback in the NFL.
"Yeah, it’s fine with me as long as I have a chance to compete, that’s all you can ask for,” Pickett told the Cleveland media on Thursday. “So having that opportunity is awesome as a player. So I’m looking forward to working with whoever comes in the building.”
After one season with the Philadelphia Eagles as their backup and polishing his game behind Jalen Hurts, Pickett is now ready to be a starter once again.
“I do view myself as a starter. I’m sure they’re going to bring in another veteran and who knows what else, but, I’m just excited to be here and compete with whoever,” Pickett said. “All the quarterback rooms I’ve been in, each room has been really tight. We all pull for each other and, that’s really what it’s all about, getting better together and making the team better. Definitely prepared for whatever situation that may present itself.”
Over his career, Pickett has played in 30 games, throwing for 4786 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. The Steelers' first-round pick out of Pitt in the 2022 NFL Draft, Pickett was heralded as a player who could help turn around the franchise after playing next door at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.
