While Newcastle United are certainly not a one-man team, many of their hopes for Sunday’s Wembley showdown with Liverpool rest on Alexander Isak.
Indeed, Isak is almost certainly Newcastle United‘s most important player and, if he’s on form, then anything can happen.
The striker has a good record against Carabao Cup final opponents Liverpool, with three goals in five games against them. Such has been his success – albeit on an individual basis – Isak has been tipped to cause Virgil van Dijk problems in the Carabao Cup final.
Ensuring the striker is fit for the game is huge for Eddie Howe. Without Isak, Newcastle looked incredibly brunt in their last meeting with the Reds, a 2-0 defeat at Anfield in February.
Having come off against Brighton in the FA Cup recently not long after missing the loss on Merseyside, Isak was also substituted against West Ham on Monday night.
With that in mind, it’s great to hear from the man himself ahead of Wembley.

Alexander Isak confirms Newcastle United injury latest ahead of Carabao Cup final
The 25-year-old conducted media duties alongside Bruno Guimaraes on Friday to speak about the era-defining game to come on Sunday.
Isak addressed the latest on his Newcastle contract situation and was naturally asked about his fitness too.

He revealed that much was made about his fitness, allaying any fears about a knock or a niggle while reporting only “tightness” in one of his muscles recently.
“I feel good. It’s probably been a bit more dramatic than it’s been,” he said.
“I haven’t been injured, I’ve just had a little bit of tightness, which can be normal when you play a lot of games.
“But yeah, I feel good and I’m really excited for the game.”

Is Alexander Isak leaving Newcastle?
Let’s certainly hope not.
Newcastle have some ambitious plans for the years ahead and letting their star player go hardly feels in keeping with that.
The striker is under contract until the summer of 2028. While Newcastle know they could bank huge money for Isak, the prospect of replacing him with a player as good even with millions to throw at it seems remote at best.
In with a chance to winning a trophy all while qualifying for the Champions League this season, there would appear to be little reason to leave Newcastle right now.
