Misa started on goal. Antonia and Méndez were the CB duo, with Yasmim and Shei starting as fullbacks. Angeldahl and Irune were the pivot duo. Caroline Møller played as #10 behind Carla Camacho, with Athenea and Eva Navarro on the wings. This was Irune’s and Carla’s first start of the season.
Unsuspecting opponents managed to take points from Las Blancas on their home ground. Deportivo’s low block made it difficult for the white club to get the ball in. Combined with the mess in the defensive line, especially the right side, and the misunderstandings at the front, the only way to beat their low block was through set pieces. And through set pieces, it indeed happened.
Two prominent players in defense were Yasmim and Irune who dropped back to recover inside her own penalty area lots of times. Aside from good defending, Yasmim took the set pieces in the first half, until Sandie Toletti got on at halftime. In the first half, until the triple halftime substitution, Angeldahl was the one creating chances by sending the ball to the left wing where Athenea was. At halftime, Linda, Toletti, and Lakrar got on for Eva, Angeldahl and Méndez. Athenea switched to the right, while Linda took the left wing.
Real Madrid’s two goals came from a freekick taken by Toletti, and penalty won by Linda Caicedo. On the other side, the loanee Olaya Rodríguez scored the penalty against Madrid, and Antonia pushed the ball into the own net which makes both of Depor’s goals pure giveaways.
24’: GOAL (0-1) by Olaya Rodríguez: Real Madrid loanee took the ball to the spot and converted it. Misa dove the right way but Olaya’s penalty was too high and too strong to be saved.
53’: GOAL (1-1) by Carla Camacho: the youngster’s first goal of the season came from a brilliant header assisted by Toletti.
62’: GOAL (1-2): Antonia Silva scored an own goal, pushing the ball in after a cross from Deportivo’s right wing.
82’: GOAL (2-2) by Olga Carmona: the captain converted the penalty given for a foul on Caicedo. Another unsavable penalty of the game.
The fourth game this season losing points in the league, two losses and two draws, all on Di Stefano. Real Madrid’s win streak in the league ends here. Next up - Arsenal in the Champions League.
