Agent Says He Can“Confirm”Liverpool’s Interest In 22 Goal Striker Amid Claims Of£100M Summer Transfer

Julian Alvarez’s agent has revealed that he did hold talks with Liverpool before the striker’s move to Atletico Madrid last summer.

The Argentinian’s representative Fernando Hidalgo told WinWin.com that the Reds were among the teams who were keen on signing the forward:

“I confirm that Liverpool were interested in Julian last season. As for the future, it’s not the right time to talk about it, because Julian is participating in important tournaments and is fully focused on them.”

Alvarez was sold by Manchester City for £82m last August and he has gone on to score 22 goals in all competitions for Atletico.

Liverpool have been tipped to revive their interest

Anfield Watch claim that the Reds only failed to land Alvarez last year after refusing to allow Luis Diaz to move in the other direction to City.

The Merseyside club are said to have retained a watching brief on the World Cup winner, with their South American scout Gonzalo Siegrist reportedly a big fan. He is believed to have wanted to sign the forward when he was still at River Plate.

Another attempt could be made to secure Alvarez’s signature, although it is thought that Atletico would demand around £100m for the player now.

Alternatives to Alvarez are being considered

Newcastle’s Alexander Isak is on the club’s radar. A move for the Swedish international is, however, likely to be complicated by the Magpies’ asking price (which could be as high as £150m) and competition from Arsenal.

RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko is another striker who could be targeted. The Slovenian would be the cheapest to pursue with his release clause said to be €80m (£67.5m). However, the forward is also being pursued by the Gunners, as well as Chelsea and Manchester United.
