Flick talks De Jong future, Atletico and brilliant Balde

Hansi Flick has been asked about Frenkie de Jong’s future on the club and doesn’t seem too sure about whether the midfielder will stay at Barcelona.

It’s been reported this week that [De Jong is now ready to talk about an extension](https://www.barcablaugranes.com/2025/3/13/24385014/frenkie-de-jong-ready-to-renew-at-barcelona-after-returning-to-form) to his contract that will expire in 2026.

Flick was quizzed on the Dutchman at his pre-match press conference on Saturday and issued the following rseponse.

> “It will depend on the club and him. We’ll see,” he told reporters.

> “He recovered from an injury and has improved, he’s doing very well, and he’s given us a lot of possession on the pitch. I’m very happy to have him.”

The Barcelona boss also shared his thoughts on [Sunday’s match against Atletico](https://www.barcablaugranes.com/barcelona-la-liga/2025/3/15/24385664/how-will-barca-line-up-against-atletico-madrid-la-liga) and urged his team to keep their focus against Diego Simeone’s side.

> “I think we played two great games and we have to be focused from the beginning to the end. At the end of the first game we were not as focused as we wanted,” he added.

> “In the second one it happened to us both at the beginning and at the end and we must take care of those details. If you make mistakes, Atletico make you pay.”

Flick also spoke about Alejandro Balde and hailed the left-back for his improvement this seaosn.

> “A very good season. He has improved a lot. He is at the level of the best left-backs in the world,” he added.

> “A fantastic player. And I think he has a lot of potential, he wants to learn and improve every day. Step by step. That’s very good.”

Barcelona will be out for revenge against Atletico and know a win will move them four points clear of Los Colchoneros.
