Chelsea win the Women’s League Cup after defeating Manchester City 2-1. There were penty of mistakes and it certainly wasn’t Chelsea’s best performance this season. Chelsea take an early lead
Mayra Ramírez gave Chelsea the lead after seven minutes. The build-up leading to the goal started with Hannah Hampton’s goal kick. Baltimore did well to keep to keep the ball in play on the sideline and found Macario. She worked her way around Hasegawa and passed to Lauren James, who then sent Ramirez away.
Ramírez had Aleixandri breathing down her neck as she charged towards Yamashita. The goalkeeper stopped the initial shot, but it rebounded off Aleixandri, giving Ramírez another opportunity to tap it in.
City takes back control
After conceding the goal, Manchester City had a good spell. Bunny Shaw, Aoba Fujino and Miedema threatened Hampton’s goal on several occasions, forcing the goalkeeper into a few saves.
While on the other end, Chelsea had the perfect opportunity to double the lead. Ramírez charged towards goal, winning the footrace with Aleixandri. Yamashita came off her line, but the Colombian international cut around her but fires in the side netting.
After four minutes of stoppage time, Chelsea lead 1-0 at half-time. Manchester City continued to control the game in the last 25 minutes, leaving little to no possession for Chelsea.

Second Half: No changes so far
The second half started with both sides unchanged. The first ten minutes were quite uneventful compared to the first half. Both teams had some small opportunitites but neither got close to a goal.

An Aoba Fujino Screamer
Manchester City struggled to maintain their momentum going but managed to equalized nonetheless. Aoba Fujino received the ball from Bunny Shaw and scored an absolute banger after dribbling half the lenght of the pitch on her way to goal. She unleashed a powerfull strike that was unstoppable for Hampton.
After the equalizer, Manchester City remained in control. Fujino and Shaw linked up in the box after Fowler dispossesed Bronze. Shaw’s effort was saved by Hampton.
First substitutes of the game
After 72 minutes of play Sonia Bompastor knew something had to change, as her team gave away the 1-0 lead in the second half.
Macario made way for Hamano and Beever-Jones replaced Rytting Kaneryd.
Immediately after the substitutions, Chelsea regained the lead. Beever-Jones found Ramírez down the right, who sent her cross into the box. Hasegawa thought she had blocked it but the ball went into her own goal.
In the final ten minutes, Cushing brought on Jess Park for Fujino, and Shaw made way for Kerolin. Sonia Bompastor replaced Ramírez by Kaptein.
Chelsea cruise to a 2-1 victory
Hasegawa’s own goal was more than unfortunate for Manchester City. They kept pressing Chelsea back on their own half and looked for ways to score the 2-2. However, The Blues did not have to work very hard for the victory in the second half. Sonia Bompastor and her side secured the first silverware of the season: the Women’s League Cup.
The teams face off another three times in the next 12 days: in the Women’s Champions League quarter-finals and the WSL.
