Aaron Rodgers has yet to choose his next NFL destination after being released by the New York Jets, and one league insider believes there is lingering uncertainty on how or when the future Hall of Famer could decide.
Rodgers is hitting free agency for the first time in his 20 NFL seasons, with several teams reportedly showing interest. The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported on the "Scoop City" podcast that both the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers have discussed potential deals with Rodgers' representatives.
Rodgers reportedly told both teams that he will make a decision soon, though there are mixed signals on where he could land. Russini reported that some within Rodgers' inner circle have given indications he will sign with the Steelers, but she added that "nobody in Pittsburgh believes that" due to the lack of communication from Rodgers' camp.
Reporter Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News also took note of the uncertainty, reporting that those close to Rodgers have a common six-word mantra about the looming decision -- "but you never know with him."
There could be another complicating factor for Rodgers. CBS Sports insider Jonathan Jones reported that Rodgers is awaiting a decision from the Minnesota Vikings, which could be his preferred destination.
"If the Vikings wanted [Aaron] Rodgers, he would already be a Minnesota Viking," Jones said.
Rodgers has hit the open market after two disappointing seasons with the Jets, losing his 2023 season in the opening drive of the season after suffering a torn Achilles and failing to make the team a playoff contender in his return to the field last season.
