Whether Sheffield United are competing in the Premier League next season or the Championship, Chris Wilder has already set his sights on his defensive options and has targeted Manchester United defender Johnny Evans, but face competition from former club West Bromwich Albion.
Evans, aged 37, began his career with Manchester United in July 2006, where he also enjoyed two separate loan spells with Sunderland in 2007, and 2008, as well as Belgian club Royal Antwerp in 2006. After nine years at Old Trafford, in August 2015, he completed a £6million move to West Brom, where he played at the Hawthorns for three-years before joining Leicester City in June 2018. In July 2023, Evans re-signed for the Red Devils, and has made over 500 professional appearances in all competitions to date.

We aren’t sure how serious United’s intentions are at this stage. Sheffield United are currently battling for automatic promotion to the Premier League, whilst the Baggies are chasing a place in the Play-Offs. Potentially, both clubs could once again be playing top flight football next season!
There is no denying the wealth of experience that Evans would bring to either squad, having lifted 3 Premiership trophies and 2 FA Cups (as well as 107 Northern Ireland caps), but, being in the twilight of his playing career we would hope that the Blades would be looking for younger legs to bolster the defence.
