Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has refused to answer a question about his past links to Manchester United. When pressed on the subject, the Argentine manager opted for a playful deflection rather than a direct response, leaving United fans wondering what could have been.
Despite his struggles at club level of late, Pochettino remains a manager with serious pedigree in the modern game.
Not only has he gained extensive Premier League experience through stints at Southampton, Spurs, and Chelsea, but he has also tested himself abroad, managing Paris Saint-Germain in France and Espanyol in Spain.
Currently, he is in charge of the USA national team, taking on the challenge of international football as he looks to make an impact ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Mauricio Pochettino swerves Manchester United question as he talks Tottenham love
During his coaching career, there have been periods when the former Tottenham boss was out of work—most notably after his sacking from Spurs. Naturally, during that time, clubs circled, and he was frequently linked with Manchester United.
The 53-year-old was a reported target before Erik ten Hag took charge in 2022. Now, appearing on talkSPORT, the USA manager remained tight-lipped on the subject, keeping his cards close to his chest when questioned about the links.
In an exchange with talkSPORT’s Andy Goldstein, a known United fan, the presenter attempted to get some answers.

He asked: “One final question, and if you answer it, I will send you a bowl of lemons… I am a Manchester United fan, how close were you to managing my club?”
Mauricio Pochettino replied cheekily: “Okay. Thank you very much! I will send my address.”
Goldstein pushed further: “Do you not want the lemons? How close? Was there a conversation? That is my last question. Was there a conversation at one stage?”
Feigning confusion, Pochettino responded: “Sorry, sorry, sorry. If I, sorry?”
Goldstein, refusing to let it go, asked once more: “I was just asking, was there a conversation with United at any stage for you to take over there?”
But the Argentine stuck to his playful approach, saying: “I do not… I cannot hear”
While he refused to divulge details about any discussions with Manchester United, Mauricio Pochettino was far more open about his love for Tottenham.
The former Spurs boss admitted he has unfinished business at the club and harbours hopes of returning to north London in the future.
However, any potential reunion is unlikely to happen soon. Reports reveal that Spurs remain behind Ange Postecoglou, and a managerial change is not expected before the end of the season, with the club set to conduct a full review of their injury-hit campaign before making any major decisions.
As for Pochettino, his immediate focus remains on guiding the USA national team towards the 2026 World Cup, making a move back to club football unlikely in the near future.
