Erling Haaland has smashed another record

Erling Haaland has broken yet another Premier League record - one held by Alan Shearer for 30 years.

The Manchester City striker put the reigning champions 1-0 up at home to Brighton on Saturday after just 11 minutes. Haaland, 24, began the move by playing in team-mate Omar Marmoush on the right flank before City's new £65million signing cut inside and was brought down by Adam Webster.

Haaland stepped up to take the resulting penalty and made no mistake. The Norwegian coolly tucked the ball into the bottom right-hand corner, sending Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen the wrong way.

"Pure confidence," Dion Dublin hailed, speaking on Final Score. "Erling Haaland doesn't even look at the keeper and he finishes it with pace."

The penalty means that Haaland has became the fastest player to reach 100 goal contributions in the Premier League, needing just 94 games to score 84 goals and register 16 assists. That's six fewer than Shearer, who achieved the feat at Blackburn Rovers in 1995.

Manchester United hero Eric Cantona and Liverpool star Mo Salah both took 116 games to reach 100 goal contributions while City legend Sergio Aguero and Arsenal icon Thierry Henry needed 118 and 121 respectively.

Record have been smashed since Haaland's arrival in the Premier League in 2022, winning the Golden Boot in both of his campaigns as a City player, also lifting the league title twice. While the 24-year-old won't likely get his hands on a third title this season, he could catch Salah in the Golden Boot race.

No player has ever won the personal accolade in each of their first three seasons in the Premier League. The only player to do it in their first two campaigns is Haaland.

His sensational tally for 36 goals in the 2022-23 season remains the record amount for a single player, although Salah is just nine away with nine games remaining. Unlike Salah, who's out of contract in June, there's no chance of Haaland going anywhere this summer.

In January, City announced that Haaland had signed a mammoth nine-and-a-half-year contract, keeping him at the Etihad until 2034. "I want to keep developing, keep working to get better and look to do my best to try and help us achieve more success going forward," he declared in an ominous message for the rest of the Premier League.
